While Wrath of the Righteous offers an automatic Crusade option, it is not recommended. The computer makes choices that can wind up causing some Mythic Paths, like Lich, to be unwinnable. It also locks out the chance to role play, as cutscenes and events will be skipped over. Starting in Act 2, Queen Galfrey will assist players with a basic Crusader army. Despite the hundreds of years of experience , or maybe because of it, the military is currently in tatters. Players should absolutely fix the military situation before engaging in any battles, or risk a snowball of losses. The state of soldier units is a sorry lot, and in reality, a General is needed to boost their power, cast spells, and mitigate deaths. At any point, players can hire from 12 potential Generals with three possible classes, though their costs go up greatly as more are acquired. The candidates and starting moves are:. Generals will gain random new abilities as they level up, making the first two immensely important. Master of Maneuver is by far the best ability as it raises the maximum amount of units in a single battalion, which means exponential offense power. Players will need to make key choices or wind up with a subpar force. Players will need to repair Drezen and other liberated Forts. Gone are the complimentary weekly units; now players will need to construct Main Barracks for each unit type. At first this will include infantry and snipers, but will soon expand to cavalry, mages, and seasoned veterans. Drezen itself is massive, allowing for three separate districts comprised of 2x6, 4x4, and 4x3, respectively. As buildings range from one to four squares in size, it is best to use the 4x4 distract for army units, while utilities like Teleportation Circles and the Pathfinder Society Lodge are in the 2x6 area. Forts are at first all 2x2 layouts, limiting the number of potential builds. Players should aim to construct two barracks types with Archery being the most useful and a Supply Center. Players will need to go directly to Drezen Citadel for these meetings to play out. Several of them will vastly change the units spawned from barracks or the mercenary pool. Meetings are attended by current party members. This means some topics or options will not appear if a character is missing, dead, or not recruited yet. Each advisor will bring up various ideas each meeting. Overall, the best options are those that offer higher offense power, attack range, speed, or harm Demon defenses. Players will also be able to issue decrees even while out of the field. There will be various choices with some based on Mythic Path and party members. The best option is to always lean into ones that grant experience points, rank ups, money, or some type of passive bonus. Taking on free soldiers is mostly worthless, as it tends to be less than 20 for a Crusade aiming for thousands of members. As players near the end of Act 3, Queen Galfrey will return to assess the player. In most cases, she will only approve of choices made by Angel and Aeon Mythic Path characters. It is almost guaranteed that she will chastise those that make decisions in line with Lich, Demon, Trickster, and Azata mentors. If that is the case, she will rip command of the Crusade away and botch all player progress by dismantling battalions and re-arranging forts. Players in this position should consider completing the entire Crusade of Mendev map during Act 3 rather than risk disaster later on.
