You're in a mocap motion capture suit, in this big grey mocap room and so there's a lot more imagination involved. There's a lot more, I guess, creativity that you really have to bring to the forefront. Nisa Gunduz further elaborated on the challenges of being the voice of a video game character in an interactive medium. I had all the markers on my face. I had my hair tied back. I had a helmet on with lights in my eyes. I was in a motion capture studio that's just this big grey room with thousands of lights all around recording literally every small movement. You have a little wooden cutout with markers on it, or you have a little styrofoam, square wrapped in tape with markers on it and that's your phone and that's your lighter and things like that. And so, I think it was more of the technical aspects that made it challenging, but also very rewarding," said Nisa Gunduz. The role of Dani Rojas in Far Cry 6 pushed her to re-learn movements that are otherwise second nature to any normal human, she said, while describing what it was like acting with mocap. So you have to do everything to your neck. So if you're smoking, you have to go like making a smoking gesture at throat level. If you're drinking, you have to go like this turning the glass at the throat level and then they bring it up in post animation. And I would put my hand in my face and then it would ruin the data and then we had to redo it all over again. Now it's like, when I see someone do that, I'm like, oh no, I'm like, no, no, you can't do that. It's so like second nature to me. There's just this whole learning curve that you kind of have to go through for motion capture acting, and you really have to bring your creativity to the forefront. And then you have to act on top of that to people who are in the same position as you also in full-body suits and lights. And sometimes you can't even see their eyes cause. The camera angle might be covering their eyes. David Leyes So you have to kind of split the difference on every line that you do in those scenarios. So if Dani Rojas chooses to ride a horse, or walk, it still sounds like it could go for either-or. So being in the voice recording studio, you really have to do all the physicalities to get that voice to sound like that, but the crazy part and I don't think any other industry would ever require this is that there are so many situations where it's like, okay, this line has to be set in a way where there could be combat, but also not combat. And you're just like, okay, okay, cool. So scream, but don't scream. And so it's just like finding this balance that somehow works when they do it in the post to reflect any of the scenarios that Dani can end up in and it's insane. It's honestly crazy. Nisa embarked on a similar journey with Far Cry 6's Dani Rojas. Nisa explained, "With Dani, I felt that I really went on this journey with her. In the beginning, I definitely felt the challenge of the technical learning curve. But I think also it was just learning the character too and understanding her role. Which is a really big role in such a big game, too. When we got the material, we would only get it two weeks at a time. So we didn't really understand where it was going and what was going to end up of Dani. We didn't know where the story was going essentially. So we got to grow with the character over the span of two and a half years. So we didn't really even know what Dani would look like. She could look like anything. I think at the beginning, that was probably the most difficult thing for me, because not knowing what your character is going to look like, but then feeling like you have an image of a character and you have this portrayal that you want to. I think that was kind of a difficult aspect. A lot of the puzzle pieces, I guess, came together with that photo. Up until that point, you know, there was actually talk of whether you could choose whatever she looks like. Essentially, she could look like anything. I think at the beginning, that was probably the most difficult thing for me. But when it did come together, I was like, oh my God, she's so hot. She's so bad-ass, I'm ready. Let's go back. Let's go film. I think obviously there's still a long way to go, but it's nice to see that things are moving in the right direction. And I'm really happy to be a part of something like that too.
