I'd give it a solid 8 out of It's a relatively short game but there are some limited side quests to help with the story, but they don't add much to the overall premise of the game. The vehicle battles were the part that were lesser part of the whole game. I had a lot of fun with it, but beat it in under 15 hours. Even though I'm not close to finishing the game yet, I do feel I've played it enough to give a decent review. The gameplay is a bit repetitive. You have to keep going back to the same areas over and over to complete side missions. It's a first person shooter mostly so you're basically just trying to take down the bad guys in different ways, but you have a variety of ways including melee attacks, guns, and something called the wingstick which is a lot like a boomarang in a way. So you work your way through and then you get to drive around places and there's some side-stuff to do with that including races and trying to destroy bandit cars. It's all more or less standard fare these days, so nothing super original except maybe that you get access to all the weapons pretty early in the game which is a nice addition instead of having to wade through hours and hours just to get the best weapons. Certain enemies definitely need different strategies, so that part is nicely thought out. The graphics are quite pretty. Very nice to look at until you realize you've been zooming around past the same stuff over and over. Controls are standard shooter far, so adapting is fairly easy. I do like the number of stuff you can pick up which includes "junk" that sellable for when you need to restock ammo. And you will need to restock ammo often, for your vehicle included. As for the story, I'm not really sure where it's going, but it seems almost secondary at times; more like a way of getting from start to finish. You have a lot of free roam ability and can decided when to do certain missions. To some degree it is a bit straightforward in the do this so you can do that part and if you don't clear your enemies well enough from time to time you get a little stuck. Some of the layouts are confusing, which is my one major point of contention. Why no map when you're on foot? And finally there's the load times which are mildly annoying, particularly if you're redoing races. The game grinds to a halt while it reloads everything for you to start again. So, all said and done, there's not a lot that's totally original, though they did spend a lot of time making the game look good. Plenty of opportunities for fun even in campaign mode. Overall, I actually really like this game even if I feel like I'm going to be playing it forever just to complete. I enjoyed playing this game. I usually don't finish games because they take too long and I'm busy enough. This game must be very short because even I beat it very quickly. I tried doing side missions but there are only like 10 side mission to do. Unlike ES: Oblivion, where you can go to a enemy hideouts anytime you want and fight bad guys, in this game you go once and kill everybody, but if you go a second time, without it being a story mission, everybody will still be dead at least that's what it seems like to me. In the game you travel to a few cities, and you can upgrade your armor and other stuff. Well, I debated whether I should upgrade my armor or not, but I'm glad I did because the game ended after the next mission anyways. The ending just tells you what the "good guys" plan on doing to the "bad guys" but it doesn't let you do that. I thought for sure I was going to get to follow with the plan, but then I saw the credits rolling down the screen. I think they should make a DLC expansion pack or a sequel. The story-line wasn't too deep, and it's not really "open world" enough for me. Mostly it has a wasteland theme, without too much futuristic weapons or scenery, but it features some advanced technologies, especial with the "bad guys". Can't believe its 3 disc. Some of the side missions are dumb because it cost money to buy ammo and other supplies, so sometimes it's not worth it to destroy vehicles, or do some missions. But I always forgot to sell my random junk. Unlike oblivion too, there isn't really any side mission where anybody askes you to bring them random stuff. All the characters have the same personalty sort of, and it's not really a complex city. It's not like you really have a choice to join the Resistance or not, and everybody seems to root for them anyways. Driving in your vehicle in this game may be a bigger feature than some might think. You usually don't travel around by foot when exploring. Usually I hate when shooting games have missions where you have to race, but in this game you don't have to do the races, you can get the prizes from races by destroying vehicles in other modes instead. But the races are easy enough and you don't have to come in 1st place, you get prizes for 3rd place even. The graphics and controls are good. Sometimes if you move left or right real fast, the scenery will load slower than you expect and add detail. But first of all, it looks good enough without the details, second, it doesn't slow down the game, and third, you can just pretend your eyes are focusing. Another thing is that I don't really like how the mutants run at you and try to hit you from the sides. But there are other enemies to fight that actually shoot at you. The multiplayer isn't really designed to be played very much, I don't think. It's more like a bonus, mini arcade game. There are no modes where you run around shooting people in a death match. There is just a vehicle death match, and some co-op survival stuff where you can walk and use a gun only tried this once, but it seemed to mess up a bit. Oh, and it recommends that you install all the disks to your hard drive xbox , but I didn't do that and it worked fine. Disk 1 is the wast-land city and disk 2 is the subway city, even though other game developers can fit like 10 of those cities on just one disc and have a decent multiplayer mode I really do like ID, though. I mostly just mentioned what I didn't like, but I really do like this game enough, it's just that they didn't add enough stuff to it. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot right with this game. The combat is fluid, the weapons are intuitive. This game has some of the best death animations in an fps. However this game is part of an even larger problem that has always plagued games; it appears to have much more depth than it what it actually possesses. This game starts you similarly, and implies that there will be a much larger environment and deadlier enemies later on. When I beat the game I was shocked, as I expected all the mundane collection crap to be a way of moving the plot to the point that the larger environment was available! If you haven't played fallout yet I would suggest that. This game was fun, but under 5 hours to beat and mediocre multiplayer makes it seem like Id and Bethesda didn't finish their homework. This is a great game even in I owned it once before but never fully played through it and then sold it I'm happy I bought it again and finally finished the story I know it got a lot of hate when it first came out for the ending but if you play this and then play the second one the ending isn't so bad since they worked it into the second games intro really well.
